LONDON, 15 December 2016 – Leading Indian finance channel CNBC TV-18 today interviewed BullionVault head of research Adrian Ash about the short-term prospects for gold prices.
A joint venture between US media giant NBC Universal and the Mumbai-based Network 18 Group, CNBC-TV18 is also carried on India's highly popular MoneyControl personal finance site.
"The thing with the 2017 outlook," said Adrian by phone from London today, talking about the threat of US interest-rate hikes, "is we saw this going into 2015 and we saw it again coming into 2016.
"The Fed said it would raise rates 4 times last year, but it didn't raise until December. It said it would raise 4 times this year, but it didn't raise until December."
The difference now "is that there has been a 'Trump bump' starting in the States, affecting government bond yields everywhere, and that is bad for gold."
