LONDON, 20 July 2015 – BullionVault's head of research, Adrian Ash, was a guest today on BBC national Radio 2's flagship evening show, Drivetime with Simon Mayo.
Asked by the show's business presenter, Rebecca Pike, what led to these new 5-year lows in the gold price, Adrian explained the link between gold prices and interest rates, plus the impact of the latest news from China on the country's huge gold bullion reserves.
"Gold doesn't pay you any interest," Adrian told Drivetime's 6 million listeners, "but it is rare and indestructible, and people have always used it store value throughout history.
"So it tends to rise when cash savings are losing value after inflation, and vice versa."
