BBC World Service: Why is Austria Taking Its Gold Home?

LONDON, 29 May 2015 – Newshour, the BBC World Service's flagship current affairs programme, today interviewed BullionVault head of research Adrian Ash about why the Austrian central bank is repatriating some of its national gold reserves.

Speaking to presenter Owen Bennett-Jones about the 5-year plan, Adrian explained why European central banks have come to hold gold in foreign countries to start with, and how political pressure – driven by the loss of monetary sovereignty in Eurozone states – has led Germany, the Netherlands and now Austria to "bring home" some gold.

The World Service's English language output is now heard by some 52 million people worldwide per week, according to the latest audience research.
